West Esplanade Pump Track – another milestone reached!
Things are moving forward at West Esplanade Foreshore Park, with Council awarding the tender for the new pump track to Velosolutions Australia.
Following our August update announcing the release of the tender, we're pleased to share that the successful company has now accepted the contract, bringing us another step closer to seeing the pump track become a reality.
So, how does the tender process work?
A tender is a way for Council to invite businesses to put forward proposals for a project. We set out what we need, and interested companies submit their ideas, experience and pricing for consideration.
Once tenders close, Council assesses the submissions against set criteria to find the best overall outcome for the community.
It's not simply about choosing the lowest price. Council considers factors such as quality, experience, suitability and value for money, with the aim of making fair, transparent decisions about how community funds are spent.
Who is Velosolutions?
Velosolutions is an international company specialising in the design and construction of pump tracks and bike trails, with around 1,000 projects delivered worldwide.
The company pioneered the world's first asphalt pump track in Switzerland in 2012 and has since built facilities for everyone from young beginners to professional riders.
And you don't have to travel far to see an example of their work!
Velosolutions designed and built the Bridgewater Pump Track near Hobart for Brighton Council in 2023. Located beside the Derwent River, it's a great local example of the type of facility they create.

What can we expect at West Esplanade?
The new asphalt pump track will cater for a range of ages and abilities, from children finding their confidence on wheels to experienced riders looking for a challenge.
Velosolutions' proposed design includes:
- A separate beginners' circuit with gentler rollers and turns.
- A larger circuit with more challenging features for intermediate and advanced riders.
- Opportunities for BMX bikes, mountain bikes, scooters and skateboards.
- Areas for riders to gather, rest and socialise, with space for families and spectators.
The design will also make the most of the park's riverside setting, connecting with existing pathways and facilities.
What's happening next?
With the tender process complete, the project is moving into its next stage.
We're still on schedule for completion by the end of February 2027.
Over the coming weeks, we'll share the proposed design plans and more information about what the new pump track will look like, including the features riders can look forward to.
The pump track is part of the West Esplanade Foreshore Park Master Plan, developed with our community in 2025, and one of two major recreation projects being delivered through Council's $2.1 million Community Recreation Fund, alongside the Kings Park Playground in Stanley.
It's exciting to see another part of our community's vision for West Esplanade moving closer to reality.
