Thank You for Your Feedback
Here's What We Heard and What Happens Next
When we launched the Circular Head Waste Partnership, we started with one simple question:
What makes it difficult for you to reduce the waste you send to landfill?
Reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill helps protect the environment, makes better use of valuable resources and helps keep waste management costs lower for our community.
Thank you to everyone who has shared their thoughts so far, including the 52 people who completed our survey. Your feedback is helping us understand the challenges our community faces and where we should focus our efforts.
What We Heard
Three key themes emerged from the survey.
1. Access to recycling is a challenge (35%)
More than one in three respondents told us they cannot access recycling service.
What it means: kerbside recycling isn't available in many rural areas, limiting opportunities to divert waste from landfill.
2. Many people are already doing what they can (33%)
One-third of respondents said they are already doing everything they can to reduce their waste. Many also asked for more recycling opportunities.
What it means: the challenge isn't a lack of willingness. People want practical options that help them recycle more.
3. Trust in the recycling system is a barrier
31% of respondents said they aren't sure whether the materials they place in recycling bins are actually recycled.
What this means: if people aren't confident the system works, it's understandable they may be less motivated to participate.
What happens next?
The survey wasn't designed to solve every challenge overnight. It was designed to help identify the biggest barriers so we know where to focus our efforts. Based on your feedback, we'll be focusing on three key areas.
We'll provide clearer information about recycling
Many people want to know what happens to their recycling after collection and what recycling options are available locally.
We'll:
- Investigate and explain the recycling journey.
- Share facts about where materials go and how they're processed.
- Promote existing recycling options, including White Hills Resource Recovery Centre and Recycle Rewards
We'll use your feedback to guide future planning
Some challenges, including expanding recycling services, require long-term planning, consultation and investment. Your feedback will help inform future decisions about waste and recycling services in Circular Head.
How You Can Help
If you're already taking steps to reduce your waste, thank you. Every effort makes a difference.
If you've been unsure about recycling because you don't trust the system, stay with us. We'll share what we learn as we go so everyone has access to clear and reliable information.
The Circular Head Waste Partnership is about working together to understand the challenges, explore practical solutions and reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill.
