The Mayor's Education Fund

The Circular Head Council Mayor's Education Fund scholarship was established in 2002 to assist a Circular Head resident to engage in further study by helping offset some of their costs.

One $5,000 Bursary is awarded each year. Applicants are required to demonstrate that they would find it difficult to access further education without the funding support.

  1. The successful candidate must demonstrate   that without support from the fund, he/she would experience hardship or find   it difficult to access further education.
  2. The   successful candidate should be able to demonstrate that he/she has explored   other avenues of assistance.
  3. Preference   may be given to candidates choosing to study at the University of Tasmania   (UTAS) or another Tasmanian facility unless there is a reason for choosing an   interstate campus.
  4. The   successful candidate will demonstrate how they would be able to assist the   Circular Head Education and Training Consultative Committee (CHETCC) to promote further education   in Circular Head and the benefits of the Mayor’s Education Fund. There is information about   CHETCC on the Council website.

The successful candidate must have successfully completed Grade 12 or be a mature age student.

In the event that the successful candidate receives additional support (e.g., other Scholarships), he/she is obliged to inform the Mayor’s Education Fund Selection Committee, which will review the situation and make a recommendation.

The Mayor’s Education Fund is $5,000 and the Selection Committee reserves the right to allocate the funds to more than one recipient if deemed worthy.

Funding is made available only in circumstances where a suitable candidate is identified.

The funding allocation will be made in two equal part payments: -

*             The first allocation will be made in the first semester upon receipt of proof of enrolment and

*             The second allocation will be made at the beginning of the second semester upon proof of continued enrolment.

The successful candidate may be invited to share their experiences of University at a Council workshop or a CHETCC meeting or event.
