Circular Head Education & Training Consultative Committee

In 1999 the Circular Head Education & Training Consultative Committee (CHETCC) was formed. CHETCC’s vision is for a connected community that values education and training and learning for life, where those opportunities are available for all.

CHETCC’s mission is to promote the value of community participation (connect) in skills growth and learning for life (learn) and enhance awareness of the critical link between education and training and future opportunities (thrive).

CHETCC continues to this day with a core group of stakeholders including representatives from business and industry, education and training providers, relevant fixed term funded projects based in Circular Head and local government.

CHETCC plans to release a new Operational Plan in 2026.

Circular Head Early Childhood Advisory Committee

Circular Head Early Childhood Advisory Committee (CHECAC) is a sub-committee of CHETCC. The purpose of CHECAC is to:

  • Enhance the ability of early childhood services to work together
  • Provide an advisory committee to council as well as to individual services

Regional Workforce Planning Study

The Circular Head Workforce Planning Study has been delivered by the Circular Head Council in conjunction with the Circular Head Education and Training Consultative Committee (CHETCC) under the Energising Tasmania initiative.

This initiative will enable the Circular Head region to gain a greater understanding of the workforce challenges and opportunities in their region; together with capability to deliver key actions that are identified in the workforce planning study.

Regional workforce planning has become an increasingly important component of regional economic development.

A skilled labour force is one of the pre-conditions for sustainable economic development, and there are strong broader social and community benefits to be gained by developing a more fully employed and engaged workforce.

Many other local government areas around Tasmania have undertaken workforce planning for their regions.  On the strength of those precedents and the formation of Jobs Tasmania, the Circular Head Council and its key stakeholders in industry, education and training - the CHETTC is committed to advance workforce planning for the region.

Learn for Life Literacy Action Plan

Council hosts the 26Ten communities’ project, ‘Learn for Life’. The project spans January 2024 – January 2028 and is focussed on improving adult literacy, numeracy and digital skills in the region. The Learn for Life – Literacy Action Plan was the vision of Council committee, CHETCC, following on from the success of their, ‘Learn for Life Community Literacy Plan 2014-2018’.

This Plan shows how we can make Circular Head a place where anyone who wants to learn can. Circular Head is a 26Ten community, one of only 5 in the state funded to lift adult literacy in our region. We are also one of only five areas in Australia acknowledged as a UNESCO Learning City.

Actions from the Plan will ensure people can take part in different types of learning programs to match their interest and needs – for work, for school, to make friends, or just for fun.

It will also be easier for adults to top up on skills in reading, spelling, working with numbers and using computers and phones.

And if they’re learning English as another language, there will be ways to help with that too.
