Smithton RV / Caravan Waste Dump Point Relocation

Smithton RV / Caravan Waste Dump Point Relocation – Works Starting Tuesday 10 March

Council is relocating the RV / Caravan Waste Dump Point to a new site at the East Esplanade with works taking place from Tuesday 10 March to Friday 13 March. During this time, the area will be closed for public access. The existing dump point at West Esplanade will remain open until the new site is fully ready.

Why are we moving the dump point?

The current dump point at West Esplanade only has space for single parking. As caravans and RVs have grown significantly in size, the existing setup is no longer suitable. The new location at East Esplanade will provide better, safer access, with around 40 metres of queuing space and overflow parking nearby.
The site was chosen after careful consideration of multiple options. It was found to be the most strategic, operationally suitable, and cost-effective location. Unlike other options, it uses existing Council land and infrastructure, keeping costs lower and allowing the project to be delivered quickly. This project is supported by a $60,000 grant from the Tasmanian Government.

How was this decision made?

Council made the decision to relocate the dump point in September 2025. An assessment process looked at factors including traffic safety, cost, construction feasibility, strategic alignment, and community amenity. We are committed to being transparent about our decisions. If you want to see the details, the decision is recorded in the September 2025 Council Meeting Minutes. www.circularhead.tas.gov.au/our-council/agendas
