Urban Community Activation Groups: Smithton and Stanley
Council is setting up two Community Activation Groups to help inform it about future ideas, projects and solutions for our urban areas of Stanley and Smithton.
These groups will bring community members and Council together to share ideas, talk through challenges and co-design future opportunities.
We’re looking for a diverse mix of people who are willing to listen, share respectfully and work constructively with others. Everyone involved will be asked to follow these Terms of Reference.
Why is Council doing this?
Council wants to change how we listen to, talk with, and work alongside our community.
The Community Activation Groups create a space for open, ongoing conversations between community members and Council. They give people a chance to have their say early, help shape ideas, and understand how decisions are made.
The groups will:
- provide a clear and respectful way for community views to be shared with Council
- help Council test ideas before decisions are made
- bring together different perspectives from across the community
- support shared problem-solving and co-design of ideas, projects and possible solutions
These groups are not advocacy or lobby groups. They won’t replace existing organisations such as Chambers of Commerce, and they aren’t a place to promote personal interests.
Looking ahead
In the future, Council may also look at creating a Rural Advisory Group. For now, the focus is on setting up these first two groups well and learning from how they work.
Expression of Interest close on Tuesday 10th March 2026.
