There are eight schools in Circular Head. The municipality's two High Schools are located in Smithton.

Schools teaching up to Grade 12 are:

TasTAFE

There is a TasTAFE campus in Smithton which runs various courses throughout the year. You can contact the campus on 6452 4984. Other nearby TasTAFE campuses include Burnie (1 hour drive) and Devonport (1.5 hour drive).

The Cradle Coast Campus of the University of Tasmania is located in Burnie. Other campuses are located in Hobart and Launceston.

Circular Head Education and Training Consultative Committee (CHETCC)

In 1999 the Circular Head Education & Training Consultative Committee (CHETCC) was formed. The group is responsible for:

• establishing recognisable and sustainable programs with young people
• supporting and liaising with community groups
• engaging and creating partnerships with business and industry
• promoting local learners

CHETCC continues to this day with a core group of stakeholders including:

• Circular Head Council
• Cradle Coast Campus of UTAS
• TasTAFE
• Department of Education (Circular Head Cluster Group)
• Circular Head Business Enterprise Centre & industry members
• Cradle Coast Authority
• Department of Economic Development
• Circular Head Non-Government School

Learn for Life Literacy Plan 2014-2018

CHETCC conducted a community literacy audit, which was presented on 25 June 2013. The literacy audit provides a number of findings and recommendations, which will inform the Circular Head Community Literacy Plan.

The Learn for Life Community Literacy Plan will be launched on Friday 12 September 2014.

This plan was developed by the Circular Head Education and Training Consultative Committee with the input of people of all ages and backgrounds within the Circular Head Community.

Implementation continues to involve community members as we strive to achieve our aim – that Circular Head residents have the necessary skills to achieve their learning and employment goals.

Association of Circular Head Schools

The state primary schools within the district have always worked very closely together. In 2009 the primary schools developed a formal working relationship, based upon the Federal Government National Partnership. From this has developed the current Federation.

This Federation is composed of the primary school in each unique town; Stanley, Edith Creek, Forest, Redpa and Smithton.

The purpose of the federation is to

• Promote school providing public education,
• Provide primary aged children with world class teachers and leaders,
• Ensure equity of resources across each school,
• Share expertise, skills and knowledge within learning areas,
• Provide suitable housing to school staff transferring into the district,
• Foster and provide local relevant aboriginal culture.
