UPDATE: Church Street Temporary Outdoor Seating

A while ago, Council installed the temporary outdoor dining area in Church Street, Stanley.

It was a trial to see how people used it, what they thought about it, and what should happen next.

The seating has been there a while - much longer than originally planned.

We know people have different views. Some would like it to stay, some would like changes, and others would prefer it removed.

We also acknowledge that we've let the trial continue without making a clear decision about its future. It's time to address that.

What are we doing now?

As part of Council's 2026-27 Annual Plan, we've inspected the seating to ensure it remains safe and given it a clean.

The next step is to spruce it up with some fresh wood stain – this will be happening in coming weeks.

With Stanley's Bicentenary celebrations beginning on 30 October, we want Church Street looking its best as locals and visitors come together to celebrate this important milestone.

Staining the seating does not mean a decision has been made to keep it permanently.

What happens after the Bicentenary?

After the celebrations, we'll ask the Stanley community and local businesses for feedback on the trial and what should happen next.

We won't be starting from scratch. The Church Street Master Plan was developed with significant community input and already provides a direction for the future of Church Street, including outdoor dining. It also recommended using temporary seating to test ideas before making permanent changes.

Now that you've had the chance to see and use the temporary seating, we want to hear from you. What works? What doesn't? What should we keep, change, improve, remove, or do differently?

Your feedback on the trial will help shape the future of outdoor dining in Church Street.

We'll let you know how you can formally have your say after the Bicentenary celebrations.
