Helpful Information

Evidence of Classification for Registration

The following evidence needs to be produced prior to your dog being registered in the appropriate class.

Desexed Dog

Certificate of sterilisation from veterinary surgeon or the provision of a statutory declaration to that effect.

Microchipping

All dogs over the age of 6 months must be microchipped. Exemptions exist from compulsory microchipping for specified racing greyhounds, specified hunting dogs and all working dogs.

Working Dog

For working dogs, a Working Dog Self-Assessment Form must be filled out. This can be obtained from Council’s website or at reception.

Hunting Dog

To enable to register your dog as a hunting dog, you must present a Hound Membership licence.

Greyhound

Registration Certificate of the Tasmanian Greyhound Racing Council.

Guide Dogs/ Hearing Dogs

Guide Dogs & Hearing Dogs require registration but will be registered free of charge.

Change of Circumstances

You must fill in the attached form if any details (for owner or dog) have altered since your last registration.

Keeping Multiple Dogs

If owners want to keep more than 2 dogs or 4 working dogs on premises, an application for a kennel licence is required.

Discount Period

Registration discount period commences on the 1st June and finishes on the 31st July every year.

Lost or Found Dog

Contact Circular Head Council on 6452 4800 promptly if you lose your dog or find one that is obviously lost. Please do not ignore the situation, it probably belongs to somebody.

Dog Attacks

All dog attacks should be reported promptly, noting time, date, description of the dog and the direction of escape, if possible. Then contact Circular Head Council on 6452 4800 or the police.

Impounding Dogs

Dogs may be impounded under the Dog Control Act 2000 if a relevant section of the Act has been breached.

Pound Releases

Dogs will only be released during normal operating hours and will not be released unless they have been registered with Circular Head Council. If your dog has been found without being microchipped, evidence must be provided to the Council that a veterinary procedure booking has been made.
