Mobile Food Vending

Council understands that mobile food vendors are a legitimate part of the Tasmanian Food Industry and are an emerging alternative to a fixed food premises.

As the presence of mobile food vendors continue to increase, Council have developed the Mobile Food Vending Policy and Mobile Food Vendor Guidelines to allow mobile food vendors to operate from select areas of Council land across Circular Head.

For the purpose of the policy, a mobile food vendor is defined as a food business who is registered as a Mobile Food Business under the Food Act 2003 and who operates wholly from within a road registered vehicle such as a truck, minivan, caravan or enclosed trailer. Food is served directly from the van to the customer for immediate consumption.

Mobile food vendors are permitted to trade at the following locations subject to availability:

Please refer to the Mobile Food Vendor Guidelines for maps, trading times and operational requirements. The guidelines have been developed to assist operators to apply for a permit for mobile vending and to comply with the requirements of the permit.

Applications can be made for annual or one-off permits. Annual permits will be issued for a maximum period of 12 months and will expire annually on 30 June.

For Annual Permit holders, bookings can be made via the online Mobile Food Vendor Booking System or by phoning Council on 6452 4800.

For One-Off Permit holders, Council will book the location once the application has been approved. Please refer to the Mobile Food Vendor Guidelines for locations.

To apply for an annual or one-off permit, please complete the Application form and lodge with Council.

Please note: the policy does not apply to roadside vendors selling fresh produce. These vendors are outside the scope of this policy and are required to complete a separate permit process. The Policy does not apply to mobile food vendors who are operating as part of an approved event. The Policy also does not apply to mobile food vendors who are operating at recreational grounds/ centres during sporting games, trainings and events.
