Stanley has won a place on the board of the 2017 edition of Australian Monopoly.

Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam attended a meeting today, where Stanley was announced alongside Hobart and Freycinet National Park as the Tasmanian destinations.

The space features a photo of the town taken from a distance, with the iconic Nut as the backdrop and will be worth $100.

“I think it is fantastic news that a town in our community has got its own place in the game,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“This will bring Circular Head to the attention of people all over Australia and that can only be a good thing for tourism.”

Last year Hasbro Australia invited each state and territory’s tourism office to nominate five key locations and attractions, with Stanley nominated for Tasmania, along with Hobart, Evandale, Freycinet and Strahan.

The public was then asked to vote for their favourite destinations online, with the most popular ultimately winning a place on the board.

The announcement of Stanley as one of the spaces was very exciting news for Circular Head Tourism Association Tourism Manager Kim Bailey, who led a very active online campaign to encourage people to vote.

“I think it’s a great accolade that we can get a little town like Stanley on the board among places from all over Australia,” Mrs Bailey said.

“All the hard work with emails, phone calls and social media posts trying to get people to vote has definitely paid off and it’s something we’re very proud of.”
