The Circular Head Council in conjunction with the Circular Head Tourism Association will be holding a photography competition this year as part of the Art About Town event.
To be called Art About Town – In Focus, the event will have three categories Landscapes, People and Streetscapes with the competition open to all ages, including high school and primary school entrants.
“Finalists in the competition will be displayed at the Arty Duck in Smithton during September with winners announced at the Art About Town winners function towards the end of September,” Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam said.
“The competition will be running in August with entries required to be photos taken within the Circular Head Municipal Area.”
Entries can be made online at www.circularhead.tas.gov.au/infocus, or with attached entry forms (available below or at Council) on DVD or CD delivered by hand to the Council office at 33 Goldie Street, Smithton, or by posting a DVD/CD with the entry forms to PO Box 348 Smithton Tasmania 7330.

Mayor Quilliam said there will be a winner for each category, an overall winner a people’s choice award – each equalling about $200 with prizes also on offer primary, high school entrants.

Mayor Quilliam said the photographs entered in the competition would be used to help redesign Council’s website and to promote the region.
“From Black River, Crayfish Creek, Mawbanna, Stanley, Smithton, Marrawah and beyond, Council is calling for entries that share what you think is great about the people in our municipal area,” Mayor Quilliam said.
“Council and the Circular Head Tourism Association will use selected competition entries to promote our community as a great place to live, work, visit and play.”
Entries will be judged by Circular Head Tourism Association Tourism Manager Kim Bailey, Circular Head artist Frances Joyce and Circular Head Communications Officer Corey Speers, with the community able to vote for a winner for the people’s choice prize.
