Circular Head Mayor, Daryl Quilliam said the engagement of the broader community in how the future needs of pool users in our area will be met was the focus of work undertaken by Councillors, officers and community representatives on Monday night.

The meeting follows a commitment made by Council in June to revisit the issue and ensure everyone has an opportunity to offer their thoughts and ideas.

“Those present on Monday night agreed ‘everything is on the table,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“We need to consider the possibilities together, we need to start at square one, about whether we need a pool, what that may look like, what that would cost, how we would pay for it and so forth.”

Mayor Quilliam said one of the first steps in the process will be the release of an updated condition report on the existing Circular Head War Memorial Pool.

“Entura (formerly Hydro Consulting) has about 100 years’ experience in managing and assessing such infrastructure, which will prove invaluable in helping us to determine the useful life of the pool,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“Once this report is provided in August we will release it to the public and explain the key recommendations going forward.”

Mayor Quilliam said Monday night’s meeting reaffirmed that the community wants to be involved in the process.

“Following receipt of the Entura report, Council will be looking at engaging a wide cross section of the community to talk about what the next steps are,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“We will also be providing tours of the pool so people can see the condition of the current facility.”
