Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam has welcomed the extension of Council General Manager Tony Smart’s contract until 31 December 2017.

Mr Smart was appointed for 12 months following the decision to cease resource sharing a General Manager with Waratah-Wynyard Council in December last year.

“During the past 10 months Tony has demonstrated a great ability to reconnect with the local community to help deliver Council’s services and projects,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“Council has been very happy with Tony’s performance and I personally hope to continue working with him pending the outcome of the current Council election.”

Mayor Quilliam said Council had decided to appoint Mr Smart for three years, which would give it adequate time to reconsider further extending his contract before the next Council election in 2018.

“Council welcomes the opportunity for Tony to lead the organisation and the new Council into the new era,” Mayor Quilliam said.

The maximum contract for a General Manager is five years under the Local Government Act.
