Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam said Council welcomed $10,000 of funding from the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal and ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grant.

“This funding will allow Council’s Community Development team to develop a film about the impacts of the drug ‘ice’, examining the issue from a range of perspectives including the addicts themselves,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“The film will include information on how to identify if people may be using, what to do and where to get help.”

Mayor Quilliam said Council had identified the use of ice as being an issue in the community and the funding would help raise awareness.

“Once completed the film will be premiered at a free event at an outdoor cinema as part of a youth arts festival,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“The film will aim to raise awareness of the issue, remove the stigma and shame attached to users and their families, by creating a positive conversation about the issue in the community, explaining where to get help and the importance of early intervention.”

Mayor Quilliam took the opportunity to thank both FRRR and ABC Heywire for funding the program and Council staff for using their initiative to tackling such an issue in a creative way.
