Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam today said Council had put in temporary heating measures following recent storm damage to the Circular Head War Memorial Pool.

“Council officers have taken a remote condenser unit off-line to prevent any risk of leaking coolant gas after it was damaged by a sheet of roofing iron in a recent storm,” Cr Quilliam said.

“Unfortunately this means that we have also had to turn off the newly installed heating system and recommission the old electrical heating elements at the pool, to try and reduce the rate of heat loss from the pool while the condenser unit is out of action.”

Mayor Quilliam said Council was in the process of seeking an insurance claim for the damage, but this was yet to be assessed.

“Council officers have begun the process of obtaining quotes to replace the damaged unit, and to repair the roof, all of which is estimated to be in the vicinity of $35,000, including labour,” Mayor Quilliam said.

Mayor Quilliam said Council hoped to get the unit replaced as soon as possible as the temporary heating solution was not sustainable in the long-term.

“As long as we can maintain an adequate temperature in the pool it will remain open and I hope that we can get the unit replaced in a timely manner,” Mayor Quilliam said.
