Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam said the $14 million investment at Devondale Murray Goulburn’s Edith Creek plant was an encouraging announcement.

“Today’s announcement is a further sign of confidence in the dairy industry in Circular Head, which produces about 40% of Tasmania’s milk,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“Following the commitment of $400,000 into the Into Dairy Sustainable Dairy Development project earlier this week this will be a positive boost to our economy.”

Devondale Murray Goulburn said the $14 million investment would enable the plant to produce commercial range of dairy products in Australia and Asia.

“This will be positive news for not only those employed at the plant, but also the many suppliers from Circular Head and beyond who will no doubt benefit from the increased demand in milk,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“We look forward to a visit in June when the company will further detail its plans for the Edith Creek site.”

Mayor Quilliam said with expansion plans by the Van Diemen’s Land Company and the completion of works at Harcus River Road underway, the dairy industry would be a key player in the long term sustainability of the region.

“The Harcus River Road project alone will allow for electricity delivered to approximately 25 land owners along the route allowing future conversion to dairy farms,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“This will ensure that more suppliers are able to come on board to meet the demand from such expansions.”
