Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam expressed his frustration today at damage to works on a replacement bridge at Kubanks Road, Smithton.

“Over the weekend vandals have damaged some of the rendering work on the piers,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“Not only will this put the work behind a few days, it will also cost at least $2000 to repair.”

Mayor Quilliam said the vandalism followed a recent theft of a pressure pump from the White Hills Transfer Station.

“What is most disappointing is that this infrastructure has been put in place to improve access for the community, but will now suffer delays thanks to the thoughtless actions of those responsible,” Mayor Quilliam said.

It is estimated that restoration works will be completed within a few days, however, Technical Officer, Engineering & Projects, James Brewer, said it was a frustrating delay.

“As a result of this vandalism the surface has been damaged, which will take some work to repair,” he said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that they should also be staying out of the construction site mainly for their own safety.”
