Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam has proudly opened stage two of the Smithton Skate Park.

"It is fantastic to be able to the addition of a skate bowl and vertical ramp to the Smithton Skate Park and I'm sure these additions will assist users to develop their skills as well as providing a safer environment," Mayor Quilliam said.

"This is another fine example of the community coming together to see this project come to fruition."

The development was made possible with the help of young people from the community and the Central Outdoor Management Committee who each raised $5000 towards the project.

An additional $28,550 was provided by Sport and Recreation Tasmania, with Council providing the remaining $60,535 into the development.

"Council's investment in this project is a clear example of our commitment to young people in the community," Mayor Quilliam said.

"I would like to thank Circular Head designer Peter Poke for his help in designing the project."

Circular Head Recreation and Community Officer Deb Mainwaring said the project demonstrated a good working relationship with young people in the community.

"Following being contacted by young people in the community, Council has been proactive in ensuring users of the Skate Park have been involved in every step of the process," she said.

"This will mean at the end of the day that we have not only have a top class facility, but also that we are providing something that young people will have ownership
