The Circular Head War Memorial Swimming Pool opened on Tuesday 3 May for a trial period over the winter season.
The winter season trial was approved at the April Council meeting for the period 3 May 2011 to 28 August 2011.
The opportunity to trial the extension of the pool season operating hours would provide Council with an indication of community support that would assist with determining future planning in recreation facilities.
Local sporting groups, schools, childcare services and individuals have indicated a commitment to utilise the pool for training, learn to swim classes and rehabilitation sessions which would assist with maintaining healthy lifestyles.
Mayor Quilliam said "With Council's focus on the balance your life - circularhead...encouraging health and well-being in the community concept the winter trial period of extending the opening hours of the Circular Head War Memorial Swimming Pool links strongly to this initiative. The balance your life concept provides the incentive to promote the importance of health well-being and reinforces programs, events and facilities that is accessible to the community.
Following the success of the 'Lose Kilos for the Community' project the Council is aware of the importance of increasing physical activity to improve wellness within the community."
Mayor Quilliam also commented "it is now up to the community to support the extended hours of operation to ensure the success of trial period."

Out of hours pool hire bookings are to be made by contacting the Pool Manager on 6452 2011.
Entry to the pool for all users will be by single entry charges and no season tickets will be available during this trial period.
