Residents in the Irishtown and Irishtown Road areas are advised to boil water before drinking

Water Boil Alert

Residents in the Irishtown and Irishtown Road areas are advised to boil water before drinking.  According to Council's General Manager, Mr Greg Winton, public health authorities recommend that to guarantee the water is safe to drink, it must brought to a rolling boil.  Once boiled water can be allowed to cool and safely stored in the fridge.

The boil water alert is a precautionary measure, following poor test results taken at the end of the Irishtown water supply line.  "All other 10 testing points throughout Smithton and Stanley have met guideline values for microbiological quality.  The problem would appear to be isolated to the Irishtown area" says Mr Winton.  The source of contamination is unknown at this stage.

The boil water alert will remain until further notice and is likely to extend until beyond Easter.
