CIRCULAR HEAD RECYCLING AND E-WASTE

According to the Australia Bureau of Statistics Australians are among some of the highest users of new technology in the world, each year purchasing over 2.4 million personal computers and more than one million televisions.

One of the greatest recycling challenges facing Australia today is known as E-Waste - electronic goods and technology that has become obsolete and fallen into disrepair. E-waste is estimated to be growing at more than three times the rate of general municipal waste such as household domestic waste.

Circular Head Council General Manager, Greg Winton announced today "TheCouncilwill now be providing a new service for the disposal of items such as computers, monitors, circuitry and telemetry. The service will be available at the White Hills Transfer Station in Smithton and be delivered by Veolia Environment Services, also known as Collex Pty Ltd."

Circular Head Council endeavours to achieve long-term environmental sustainability by reducing waste sent to landfill through recycling, thus saving valuable resources for future generations.

The disposal of White Goods such as fridges, microwaves and washing machines, together with Non Ferrous Metals, such as aluminium, brass, copper, stainless steel and lead will continue via Smorgon Recycling.

Mr Winton indicated that no increase in disposal fees would occur for these services. "Increased participation, particularly by individuals making the effort to sort their waste can lead to possible future reductions in charges" said Mr Winton.
