This previous strategy was given real effect by a lively and successful Weeds Group who achieved many successes including construction of the truck wash facility and extensive containment of ragwort.

Recently, a weeds officer was appointed to co-ordinate current projects and initiatives. Anthea Fergusson brings considerable experience from the farm and the books.

Efforts for the following year will focus on education and awareness activities, co-ordinating and supporting the weeds advisory group and eradicating ragwort and pampas.

Current projects supported include boneseed eradication at Tier Hill (through Cradle Coast NRM), and gorse eradication on the Stanley peninsula.

By developing a working strategy, and co-ordinating efforts with the Regional NRM initiatives, we will make long term improvements in weeds management. "It is important to protect our rich area from weed infestations which would severely impact on our prosperity and reputation" said Mayor Hine.

Interested persons are encouraged to join the group who will be meeting at 7.30pm on the 6 December at the Council Administration Centre. Meetings are three to four times per year.
