This year’s Mayor’s Education Fund Bursary was awarded to Danielle Quilliam at the Onwards and Upwards event in Smithton.

The Mayor’s Education fund was established in 2002 to assist Circular Head students to go on to further study by helping offset some of their costs and to help promote the importance of further education.

One $5000 Bursary is awarded each year and applicants are required to demonstrate that they would find it difficult to access further education without the funding support.

“While Danielle was unable to attend today’s event I can attest that she is very grateful to receive this year’s scholarship, which will go a long way to ensuring she can focus on her studies,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“Danielle hopes to bring back many of the skills gained in her studies back to Circular Head, which I’m sure will be of benefit to a number of people in the community.”

Danielle will be undertaking a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts degree at the Launceston campus of the University of Tasmania.

“Danielle has grown up in Circular Head and has been a familiar face at many concerts with her performances and her further studies in contemporary arts will ensure her passion is shared with others in the community,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“I wish her well and thank all other applicants for taking the time to apply for the Education Fund.”

Soroptimists International of Circular Head also presented a scholarship to Monique Medwin, while the Flora Fenton Scholarship was awarded to Conner Hickey.
