Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam said significant improvements on King Street were now complete.

“Firstly I would like to thank all affected businesses for their patience while we have undertaken significant improvement to both vehicle and pedestrian movements on this important route in Smithton’s town centre,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“Secondly, thanks to residents and visitors to the area who have taken care while these works have been undertaken.”

Mayor Quilliam said Council worked with affected businesses and services on King Street to deliver information on the redevelopment to help create minimal disruptions to business, traffic and pedestrians.

Improvements as part of the project included:

Mayor Quilliam said Council’s Works Plus team had managed the project well especially considering the location of the Smithton Medical Centre on King Street.

“The Works Plus team did a great job of ensuring patients had access to the medical centre at all times during the works,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“While the works were delayed due to unknown underground tanks and other unanticipated matters, I’m sure everyone will agree that we have achieved a great outcome.”

The project was completed under the original $720,000 budget.
