Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam today launched Circular Head Council’s Digital Local Government project.

Mayor Quilliam said the project was a significant partnership between Council, the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, NBN Co and Northern Tasmanian firm Point Duty.

“This program is all about developing an effective means of lodging development and building applications electronically,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“This is just one of the ways how Council can lead by example and show the community ways of making the most of the NBN.”

Federal Member for Braddon Sid Sidebottom said in addition to the Smithton Digital Hub, the Digital Local Government project was a great example of using the NBN.

“Information technology offers a great opportunity for regions such as Circular Head as it helps break down physical barriers such as its regional location,” Mr Sidebottom said.

“The Digital Local Government project has enabled Circular Head Council to develop the eDABA portal, which will go a long way in assisting in the lodgement of development and building applications.”

The eDABA solution provides a number of mechanisms to allow people wishing to lodge development and building applications to connect with Council that assists with the following:

Council acknowledged the support and financial assistance of the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, NBN Co and work of Point Duty in rolling out the project.

The eDABA project was funded with a $375,000 grant from the Department of Broadband, Communications with a $125,000 in kind contribution and $50,000 investment from Council.

The portal is in a commissioning phase and will be tested with developers, draftsmen and other professionals, however, the general public is welcome to register to use the portal via Council’s website at www.circularhead.tas.gov.au
