Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam today expressed his condolences to the family of Milan Vyhnalek, who passed away last week.

Mr Vyhnalek founded Lactos and Lacrum cheese factories, which for a period operated in Circular Head.

“Circular Head and indeed Tasmania owe a debt of gratitude for Milan Vyhnalek’s contribution to the dairy industry,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“From starting Lactos, which now under Lion is one of the Tasmania’s, if not the country’s, largest manufacturers of specialty cheeses, Mr Vyhnalek was a true innovator.”

Mayor Quilliam said Mr Vyhnalek’s contribution now lived on in the economic benefit delivered by the Lion cheese factory in Burnie.

“Lactos would never have got off the ground if not for his tireless work and thanks to him we have many local producers benefiting in addition to fine Tasmanian produce being sold around the nation,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“Mr Vyhnalek was well known in Circular Head for never taking no for an answer and I’m sure his legacy will continue well into the future.”
