Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam today announced the winner of this year's Mayor's Education Fund Bursary - Lisa Ryan, of Smithton.

"Lisa is undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing at UTAS in Launceston. At the end of her three years of study she will qualify as a registered nurse," Mayor Quilliam said.

"She has always been interested in the human body and looks forward to assisting people recover from illness and assist them back on the road to good health."

Mayor Quilliam said at the end of Lisa's nursing studies she will have the option of being able to go on to study a further area of interest such as midwifery or oncology should she want to.

"Lisa has a range of other interests and interestingly has also been to Fiji on a mission trip while she was a student at the Circular Head Christian School and is a member of the Catholic Church catering committee," Mayor Quilliam said.

"We wish her well with her future studies."

The Mayor's Education Fund was established in 2002 to assist a Circular Head resident to engage in further study by helping offset some of their costs.

One $5000 Bursary is awarded each year and applicants are required to demonstrate that they would find it difficult to access further education without the funding support. It is preferable that the course is relevant to the district.

The Mayor's Education Fund Bursary is part of the University of Tasmania's West North-West Bursary Program.

The bursary was given to two people last year. Jesse Gray and Jocelyn Harrisson, who both received $2500 each towards their education.

Other scholarships presented today included the Soroptimists International of Circular Head Scholarship, which went to Charlotte Boatwright, the Tall Timbers Scholarship, which was awarded to Morgan Ralston, and the Flora Fenton Scholarship, which given to Annalise Arnold.

The Mayor was also happy to congratulate Stanley local Laikin Maguire, who received a Nursing and Allied Health scholarship from the Royal College of Nursing Australia, worth $30,000.
