Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam said he was ecstatic to hear that Stanley’s Godfrey’s Beach had been named as the state’s winner of the Clean Beach Award by Keep Australia Beautiful Tasmania.

"Godfrey’s Beach is no doubt one of the most picturesque and best locations in our municipality," Mayor Quilliam said.

"While the beach has posed some environmental challenges in the past, Council has recently allocated a further $98,000 to repair damaged access to the beach, which demonstrates our commitment to the area.

Mayor Quilliam said Council had undertaken a number of works over the years to ensure the beach could be enjoyed by a wide section of the community and tourists.

"This work has included partnerships with Cradle Coast Natural Resource Management, the Parks and Wildlife Service and the Stanley Primary School," Mayor Quilliam said.

"I would like to thank these groups, Council staff and the wider community for their contribution in helping to achieve this award."
