The winners are as follows:

• Circular Head Australia Day Young Citizen of the Year 2012, Mr Jye Crosswell
  
• Circular Head Australia Day Community Event of the Year 2012, the Centenary Celebrations of the Stanley Town Hall

"Annette Dawes is to be congratulated for her passion and drive to bring music to the hearts, souls and minds of the citizens of Circular Head, the North West Coast and beyond," Mayor Quilliam said.

"For over 30 years Annette has shown a strong sense of citizenship as is evident by her many achievements and contributions to her community."

Mayor Quilliam said Mrs Dawes had a love for musical theatre, which had been furthered by her involvement in the Smithton Primary School Singers, Voice of Young Singers choir, the Smithton Christmas Carols and the popular "Bawdy Banquet", which has raised more than half a million dollars over 25 years for various community and sporting organisations.

"Jye Crosswell has been awarded the Circular Head Australia Day Young Citizen of the Year Award for his well developed leadership skills as well as his general pride in his school and community," Mayor Quilliam said.

"Jye has had a lot of involvement in working towards replacing the gym at the Smithton High School, helped organise a drug forum to increase awareness of the risks in drug taking behaviour and has been involved in a number of other activities in the community."

Mayor Quilliam said Mr Crosswell has been involved in the Seven Up youth centre, Meals on Wheels, the Breakfast Program at the Smithton Primary School, is Deputy Mayor of the Circular Head Youth Council, Council's Coffee is in Your Cup training initiative and also excels in a range of sports.

"Jye is a young man who has taken every opportunity to achieve his best and he is a worthy choice for the Young Citizen Award and we wish him the very best for his future," Mayor Quilliam said.

Mayor Quilliam said he was very pleased to announce that the Centenary Celebrations at the Stanley Town Hall had been named as the Community Event of the Year.

"The Stanley Town Hall was able to celebrate its 100^th birthday last year in style thanks to State Government funding, which allowed major renovations of the facility," Mayor Quilliam said.

"The centennial ball and official opening combined with a display of memorabilia in June was just the start of celebrations, with a performance by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in October really setting the scene for the next 100 years at the hall."

Mayor Quilliam said the upgrades meant that the whole community was able to benefit and congratulations must go to the many volunteer hours and the Stanley Town Hall Committee for maintaining the important place that the hall holds in our community.
