Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam today announced that the Twilight on the Duck Australia Day celebrations at Smithton had been given a welcome boost.

"I'm very pleased to announce that Allen Hansen, through his company Tasmanian Seafoods, has kindly donated $5000 to this year's Twilight on the Duck celebrations," Mayor Quilliam said.

"This donation follows similar support from companies such as Greenhams, which has donated $1000 for the Duck Dash, to really make next year's celebration one to really remember."

Mayor Quilliam also thanked various other sponsors, in-kind supporters and volunteers for their continued support of what had become a key part of Circular Head's events calendar.

"Twilight on the Duck really sees our community come together to celebrate what Circular Head is, what it has to offer and where its future is headed," Mayor Quilliam said.

"The event has grown tremendously over the years with a total estimated crowd of about 4000 people turning out to celebrate."

Mayor Quilliam said the event had become a signature festival for the region

"Taking place on West Esplanade in Smithton on the banks of the Duck River, Twilight on the Duck offers low cost family entertainment and competitions, live music, great food and a spectacular twilight fireworks show," Mayor Quilliam said.

"Then of course are the Annual Australia Day 2012 Awards, which will officially open the event at West Esplanade commencing at 3pm."

Annual activities such as the 'Duck Race', the 'Duck Dash' 7km foot race and the 'Duck Pedal cycling challenge add a fun, local flavour. Plastic ducks race on the Duck River in the 'Duck Race' which is always a crowd pleaser and attracts great cash prizes.

Launceston band Victor Charlie Charlie will be headlining the musical entertainment on the day. Also on offer is Graze the Region, which celebrates local produce, food and wine.

"Twilight on the Duck is also about showcasing Circular Head's local produce, talent and uniqueness," Mayor Quilliam said.

"The event is a collaborative one, organised by a committee with representation from business, local government, sporting clubs, the arts, youth, the local indigenous community, and the service clubs."

The Twilight on the Duck is also complimented by a Cocktail Party on Tuesday, 25 January at Tall Timbers Hotel between 6.30pm and 8pm.

The cost is $20 per person, which includes light refreshments and a complimentary drink. Formal dress is required.
