1. Place the Bass Highway Bypass between Brittons Road and Nelson Street on the Smithton Recreational Trails Plan, with high priority;

2. Lobby the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources to obtain authority to construct a walking track on the northern (Smithton) side of the Bass Highway bypass between Brittons Road and Nelson Street; and

3. Allocate funds to implement the construction of the Bass Highway bypass walk track.

The Council, at its Meeting held on 14 July, decided that in the first instance determined to request the Business Strategy Unit to investigate a preliminary design with costs, and the practicality of building the track, should be investigated and reported back to the Council to consider.

"It is likely that the costs will exceed $500,000 to complete the 1.85 kilometre stretch with the standard 1.5m width, but let's see the details", said Mayor Quilliam.

"Council over the past three financial years has undertaken $362,781 of works on the walking tracks in Smithton, and has committed $29,000 for the placement of exercise equipment at various sites on the new East Esplanade walking track for the 2011/2012 financial year", said Mayor Quilliam.
