Council adopted a position in September 2009 following a period of public consultation, resulting in four submissions being received.

The position states:

"The Circular Head Council will not support the notion that any of the reserves within its boundary, current or future, be proclaimed as National Park without:-

1.   Extensive consultation by the State Government with Circular Head Council; and,

2.   Extensive consultation with the existing land managers and/or existing or future lessees, which may include, but are not limited to, Mineral Resources Tasmania, the Parks and Wildlife Service (including the Arthur Pieman Conservation Area Management Committee, if/where required) and Forestry Tasmania; and,

3.   The opportunity for the public to provide input for a minimum of eight weeks; and

4.   The full agreement of the Circular Head Council as elected representatives of Local Government, via;-
      a.    A  decision made by absolute majority; after,
      b.   Consultation with all parties listed in (2) in respect to their current or intended future operations within the   Circular Head municipal area,and with due consideration in respect to (3)."

Mayor Quilliam, noting the recent media publicity in relation to the Tarkine mining proposals, indicated that "The Council does not support the creation of any national park or reserve without extensive consultation all stakeholders."
