CIRCULAR HEAD GOES TO EUROPE

Circular Head Council in the far north-west of the State has produced an 11-minute DVD, undertaken website redevelopment and produced new marketing collateral aimed at increasing awareness of the municipality and the lifestyle of those who live in it.

In an innovative move, the Council has arranged to provide its marketing material to Interfarms Emigratieservice in The Netherlands to help promote the municipality as a potential location to emigrate to within Tasmania. The material will be made available at an agricultural/migration show in Germany in December and through migration seminars in The Netherlands in January.

Circular Head Council is hoping to build awareness of the municipality among Europeans requesting information about Tasmania.

Interfarms Emigratieservice has in recent years assisted the Department of Economic Development to promote Tasmania to Dutch crop and dairy farmers considering immigration. The company has representatives in Australia - including in Circular Head - along with Canada, France, New Zealand, Portugal, Sweden and the United States.

Interfarms Emigratieservice consultants provide potential emigrants with information on life and farming, the education system, taxation and social programmes in the country they are seeking to emigrate to. The company receives enquiries year-round from persons considering a permanent move to Australia.

The European events add to Circular Head's international presence. In May the municipality was promoted for the second year running at New Zealand Agricultural Fieldays®, the largest agricultural event in the Southern Hemisphere. Agricultural Fieldays® attracts more than 1,000 exhibitors and 130,000 visitors over four days.

The New Zealand promotion came as a result of the popular Circular Head Regional and Economic Profile which was the first work of Council aimed at stimulating awareness of the social, economic and natural values of Circular Head.

Circular Head Council General Manager Greg Winton said he was not aware of any other municipality working with private business and peak organisations to promote itself so widely. "It's a first for Circular Head and a unique opportunity for us," he said. "It will be very interesting to see what response we get.

"We have local Interfarms representatives, a family of six who emigrated to Circular Head a few years ago from The Netherlands, so certainly the impetus is there for others to follow."

While Council is predominantly seeking to promote Circular Head as a place for farming families to consider moving to, due to the nature of the municipality, it will also include copies of the Circular Head Tourism Association's eight-minute DVD and tourism marketing collateral in its overseas-bound information kits.
