Boil Water Alert - Irishtown Area

Residents in the Irishtown and Irishtown Road areas are advised to boil water before drinking. According to Council's Mayor, Cr Ross Hine, public health authorities recommend that to guarantee the water is safe to drink it must be placed on a rolling boil for 1 minute. Once boiled water can be allowed to cool and safely stored in the fridge.

The boil water alert is a precautionary measure, following poor test results taken at the end of the Irishtown water supply line. 'All other 10 testing points throughout Smithton and Stanley have shown good results, any problem would appear to be isolated to the Irishtown area' says Mayor Hine. The source of contamination is unknown at this stage, but thought to have entered from a water connection or break in a pipe somewhere in the Irishtown or Irishtown Road area.

Residents in the affected area will be receiving advice in writing from the Council. Residents in the affected areas should continue to boil drinking water, until further notice. If residents have any questions, please contact the Council by phone 6452 4800.
