Melbourne to Stanley Yacht RaceHeading towards the finish line in the 2006 - Melbourne to Stanley Yacht Race

The Melbourne to Stanley Yacht Race is held annually to coincide with the Melbourne Cup. The 152-nautical mile race across Bass Strait begins at Queenscliff, Victoria and ends at the Nut in Stanley.

The Melbourne to Stanley Yacht Race is organised by the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria. Tasmanian Ports Corporation provides berthing facilities for the competitors and also supports the festival.

Circular Head Agricultural ShowShow Day

The Circular Head Agricultural Show is held annually in November or December.

The Show features an animal nursery, cattle judging, show jumping, wood chopping, a canine show and judging, entertainment for children and, for older folk, hair-raising rides.

Prizes are also awarded for flower and produce displays, along with arts and crafts.

The Show is very popular and attracts visitors from Circular Head and surrounding areas.

Rip Curl West Coast Surf Classic

The Rip Curl West Coast Classic is a mobile surfing event held in March at Marrawah and nearby cA surfer's paradise. The mighty waves of the Southern Ocean break in the Arthur Pieman Conservation Area Circular Head. Image - Tasmanian Seaweed Fertilisers.oastal areas. It is Tasmania's premier surfing event.

The Southern Ocean is renowned for producing big swells and each year West Coast Classic surfers find themselves taking on waves from one to six metres in height.   Some years have seen "Hawaiinesque" conditions.

The event features 12 divisions, from super groms to legends, with the main event being the Men's Open division.

The West Coast Classic event has been contested annually for some 30 years.

Twilight on the DuckAustralia Day

Circular Head celebrates Australia Day each year with the ''Twilight on the Duck' festival on the banks of the Duck River in Smithton.

''Twilight on the Duck' offers low cost family entertainment and competitions, live music, great food and a spectacular twilight fireworks show. Annual activities such as the 'Duck Race', add a fun, local flavour.

This event showcases Circular Head's local produce, talent and uniqueness. It is primarily funded by council with sponsorship from local businesses. The event is a collaborative one, organised by a committee of volunteers and council staff. This committee has been working over several years to grow our Australia Day celebrations into a major event.

Australia Day Awards

Each year the Council presents Australia Day Awards on the eve of the Twilight on the Duck celebrations. These awards recognise those who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year or given outstanding service to the community over a number of years. The major awards presented each year are; Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year (residents aged between 16 and 30 years); Senior Citizen of the Year (65 years and over) and Community Event of the Year.
