Port Latta Landfill
The Regional Landfill at Port Latta Landfill was commissioned in February 1992 and is operated by Circular Head Council. It mainly receives wastes from the Circular Head and the Neighboring Waratah/Wynyard Councils, but also receives significant volumes of hazardous wastes from external sources.
The landfill operates under license issued by DPIWE in January 1996. The Landfill operates under an Environmental Management Plan, which is reviewed on a regular basis.
Circular Head Council has expanded the operation to accept hazardous wastes, and to include processing of hydrocarbon contaminated soil.
Proposed disposal of Hazardous wastes may require a DPIWE approval process. Wastes that may require DPIWE approval includes:
-
Fire Debris
-
Asbestos
-
Hydrocarbon Contaminated soil
-
Other controlled wastes
