Weeds
Weeds in Circular Head
Ragwort and Pampas Grass are high priority weeds identified in the Circular Head Weed Strategy, and are declared plants under the Weed Management Act 1999. Inspectors appointed under this Act may require a person to remove, destroy or dispose of declared weeds.
Council continues to provide the following support:
- Information brochure on the identification and management of weeds
-
Roadside control of Ragwort and Pampas Grass
-
Act as a contact to the public for weed control
You can assist in Ragwort and Pampas Grass control in our municipality by:
-
Farm hygiene - reducing the risk of weed spread through machinery, equipment and vehicles (NOTE: the Circular Head Weed Strategy Group has developed a Circular Head Ragwort Hygiene Project document which outlines hygiene measures. This document is available from Council upon request).
-
By being able to identify Ragwort and Pampas Grass Click Here to see Department of Primary Industries Water & Environment's web page for more information on identification.
-
Control these weeds on your property before they flower and set seeds Click Here to see Department of Primary Industries Water & Environment's web page for more information on control methods.
-
Monitor your property - the seeds of ragwort can remain viable in the soil for up to 10 years. The seeds of Pampas Grass are distributed by the wind for kilometres and each flower may produce up to 100,000 seeds.
The Circular Head Municipality is fortunate in that both Ragwort and Pampas Grass infestations are found only in isolated occurrences and eradication of these weeds is possible. All members of our community can play a vital role in the eradication of Ragwort and Pampas Grass.
Weed enquiries can be directed to Council's Infrastructure and Development Services Department on telephone 03 6452 4820.
