Edge of the World Image Chosen as Winner

17 January 2014

Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam today announced that Stanley-based photographer David Murphy’s image of a scene near the Arthur River mouth had been chosen as the winner of the “Essence of the Far North West” photography competition.

Council announced the competition in September last year, with the winning image to be used as the basis of a 3 metre x 2 metre tourism sign to be erected adjacent the Bass Highway, at a site to be determined, east of the Stanley Highway turnoff.

“David’s image, titled On The Edge, was definitely the stand out amongst entries in the competition and has been chosen by a panel of Councillors and a representative from the Circular Head Tourism Association as the winner of our competition,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“Pending negotiations with the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources, Council hopes to have a sign installed by the end of the year to help promote the tourism assets beyond Stanley.”

Mr Murphy has received a $1000 cash prize for his image, with the remaining submitted images to be kept on file.

“Council has been in contact with all entrants and intends to use some of the images for other promotions with agreement from the entrants,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“This competition has been an excellent way for Council to promote our great region.”
