Water Disruption, Stanley

27 April 2006

The Council, will be replacing dysfunctional water valves in Stanley on Saturday April 29 2006. The works involve the installation of new water valves at five separate locations.

All properties can expect a disruption to the Council supply of water for a period somewhere between 9.00 am and 12.00 noon.

General Manager of the Council Greg Winton indicated it had been requested that the timing of the works be altered to late in the night and early morning, however, issues such as noise disturbance, occupational health and safety and the availability of support services meant this was not practical.

Originally the Council had scheduled the works for January 2006, however, a decision had been made to defer the works due to the potential impact to business operators during the peak tourism period.

Mr Winton advised that "The works will be going ahead; the short inconvenience now will permit any future shutdowns to be confined to smaller sections of the town. The scheduling has ensured that the local school would not be affected and that the risks of the disruption being extended are minimised."

"The inconvenience is regretted but necessary. I encourage Stanley residents and commercial operators to take appropriate actions to accommodate any individual effects the disruption will cause" said Mr Winton.
