Freight Equalisation Scheme Expansion Welcomed

Freight Equalisation Scheme Expansion Welcomed

16 March 2015

Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam and Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Robby Walsh have welcomed increased funding to the Freight Equalisation Scheme.

“Both Councils wish to congratulate the Federal Government on the expansion of the scheme, which will benefit a number of exporters across both municipal areas,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“This will be of particular benefit to those in the manufacturing, dairy, agricultural and forestry sectors.”

Mayor Walsh said any assistance to overcome the cost of international exports would be of significant benefit to the region.

“Tasmania, and in particular the North-West, is now on the right path to increase the export of products into global markets,” Mayor Walsh said.

“This is particularly positive not only for those companies, but also the many people employed in the various exporting industries in our region.”

Both Mayors said the employment opportunities coming out of the announcement would be of particular benefit to their communities.

“This announcement will allow employers across Circular Head and Waratah-Wynyard to explore new opportunities and in doing so hopefully looking at how they can create additional jobs on the ground,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“As a high percentage of products from our two communities are exported, this is a significant announcement for our region.”
