White Hills Waste Transfer Station (TIP)
Telephone/Fax: (03) 64524896
Council's only facility for waste disposal is located at White Hills, on the Bass highway approximately 2 km east of Smithton.
The transfer station uses large bins, which take domestic and other wastes that can be manually handled. Other containers are provided for recycling of glass and some plastics, e-waste, properly rinsed chemical containers, white goods (fridges etc), batteries, tyres, and vegetable oils. Green waste can also be disposed of on site.
Some materials cannot be disposed of: hazardous materials (such as asbestos, contaminated soil, etc), liquids, and other "controlled" wastes. Contact Council for advice on disposal of these materials, or with any questions. State Government information on waste is available click here
The site operates using a token system, and these are provided upon payment of rates. If no tokens are available, waste can still be disposed of for set fees.
