Stubbs Constructions appointed as contractors for Circular Head Community Wellbeing Centre

Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam has announced that Stubbs Constructions have been appointed as building contractors for the Circular Head Community Wellbeing Centre.

Circular Head Community Wellbeing Centre is a $12M project being jointly funded with $3.8M from the Australian Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund and $3.5M from the Tasmanian State Government with Council funding the remaining $4.7M.

“This is an exciting milestone in the project as building work commences” Mayor Quilliam said.

“The facility design work has produced a facility with best possible value and lowest operational costs in mind.”

Council has worked in consultation with the community to determine the key features pf the centre, which will include a six-lane 25 metre pool, 6m x 12.5m program pool and aquatic play, multi-purpose program space with two rooms capable of being used together or separately.

The Burnie-based Stubbs Constructions Pty Ltd has recently completed work on the Smithton High School upgrade, built strong working relationships in Circular Head and shown a commitment to working with the local community. Stubbs Constructions also built the Burnie Aquatic Centre, which opened in 2016.

Mayor Quilliam said Council was pleased with the quality of proposals received.

“Stubbs Constructions satisfied Council with the level of detail that had gone into pricing the extensive specifications and plans,” he said.

“Given their recent experience on the construction of swimming pool facilities, Council has great confidence in their capabilities to deliver this project.”

The forecast $12M project value includes all profession design fees, contingencies, utility connection fees and other costs associated with establishing the facility. The construction contract awarded with Stubbs is a component of this project value.

“Council looks forward to working with Stubbs Constructions to realise any project costs savings that can be achieved on the project that will benefit the community without compromising the operations of the facility,” Mayor Quilliam said.

The construction activities are scheduled to commence this month and forecast for completion by the beginning of November 2018.
