Funding commitment for new rockwall for Smithton Foreshore

The Smithton Duck River Eastern Foreshore Rehabilitation program will receive funding support of $250,000 from the Federal Government.

Liberal Senator for Tasmania Stephen Parry has announced funding commitment for rehabilitation of the Duck River Eastern Foreshore in Smithton as part of the Improving Your Local Parks and Environment program.

“The funds will allow the Circular Head Council to construct the Eastern Foreshore rockwall and develop the area as a community recreation area,” Senator Parry said.

“Rock will be placed in the area between the Scout Hall north towards Murray Street replacing old demolition fill, creating a safer and more pleasant environment for recreation.

“The rockwall is designed to protect against erosion and withstand flooding.”

Senator Parry acknowledged the work of former Federal Member for Braddon Brett Whiteley who worked closely with the Circular Head community to deliver for the region.

Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam said Council was pleased to receive the funding.

“The Eastern Foreshore rehabilitation is something we’ve done a lot of planning for and the funding will allow us to progress with improvements in the area,” Mayor Quilliam said.

“We see the rockwall as a very important piece of infrastructure and welcome any funding towards it.”
