Rip Curl West Coast Surf Classic

The Rip Curl West Coast Classic is a mobile surfing event held in March at Marrawah and nearby coastal areas. It is Tasmania's premier surfing event.

The Southern Ocean is renowned for producing big swells and each year West Coast Classic surfers find themselves taking on waves from one to six metres in height.   Some years have seen "Hawaiinesque" conditions.

The event features 12 divisions, from super groms to legends, with the main event being the Men's Open division.

The West Coast Classic event has been contested annually for some 30 years.

Twilight on the Duck

''Twilight on the Duck' offers low cost family entertainment and competitions, live music, great food and a spectacular twilight show. Annual activities such as the 'Duck Race', the 'Duck Dash' foot race, the 'Duck Cast' fishing competition and the 'Duck Pedal' cycling challenge add a fun, local flavour.

This event showcases Circular Head's local produce, talent and uniqueness. The event is a collaborative one, organised by a committee with representation from business, local government, sporting clubs, the arts, youth, the local indigenous community, and the service clubs. This committee has been working over several years to grow our Australia Day celebrations into a major event.

For more information about 'Twilight on the Duck' or to express interest in being part of our annual Australia Day celebrations at West Esplanade, Smithton please contact the Community Services Department at Circular Head Council on 6452 4800.
